Alright, let’s talk about digging up the player stats for that New England Patriots versus Washington Commanders game. It’s something I do pretty regularly after a game, just to get a feel for who did what.
So, the game finished, and I wanted the numbers. First thing I usually do is grab my phone. Muscle memory, you know? I popped open one of the sports apps I use, I think it was the ESPN one this time, but sometimes I use CBS Sports or even the official NFL app. Doesn’t matter too much, they mostly have the same core info.
Navigated to the NFL scores section. Found the Patriots-Commanders game pretty quick, it was recent. Tapped on that. Usually, you land on a summary page, right? Score, maybe some highlights.
Finding the Box Score
What I’m really after is the box score or the specific ‘Stats’ tab. Most apps lay it out pretty similarly. I scrolled down or tapped over to the stats section. This is where you get the good stuff.
They usually break it down by team first. So I looked at the Patriots’ side.
- Passing: Checked Mac Jones’ line – completions, attempts, yards, touchdowns, interceptions. Always curious about the QB performance.
- Rushing: Looked for Rhamondre Stevenson and Ezekiel Elliott. How many carries? How many yards? Any TDs?
- Receiving: Scrolled through the receivers. Who got the targets? Catches? Yards? Always look for guys like Demario Douglas or Hunter Henry.
- Defense: Sometimes this is harder to find or less detailed on basic apps, but I look for tackles, sacks, interceptions if they list ’em easily. Ja’Whaun Bentley usually pops up here.
Then I did the same thing for the Commanders.
- Passing: Sam Howell’s stats were obviously key. Lots of attempts usually. Yards, TDs, INTs.
- Rushing: Checked Brian Robinson Jr.’s numbers.
- Receiving: Looked for Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel – who got the ball, how much they did with it.
- Defense: Same deal, looked for their main tacklers or anyone who made big plays like sacks or picks.
Jotting it Down (or Not)
Honestly? Most times I just look at the numbers on the screen. I’m not usually writing a formal report or anything. It’s more about getting a mental picture. Did the running game work? Was the QB efficient? Who carried the load on receiving? Who stood out on D?
Sometimes, if a stat really jumps out, or if I’m talking about it with someone later, I might take a quick screenshot or just make a mental note of a specific number, like “Wow, Howell threw for X yards” or “Stevenson only averaged Y yards per carry.”
It wasn’t complicated. Just involved opening an app, finding the game, tapping the stats section, and scrolling through the player lists for both teams. Took maybe 5-10 minutes tops. Gave me a much better sense of the individual performances beyond just the final score. That’s usually how I go about it.
