So, I went to PNC Park the other day. Yeah, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. I’d heard some buzz about this crazy hot dog they’ve got there, the “Renegade Dog.” And let me tell you, the rumors are true. This thing is a monster, in the best way possible. This was my first time to try this thing at the park, and I’d really like to give it a try!

First off, I had to find the right spot. They sell these bad boys near section 133, which they call “Pop’s Plaza.” It’s kind of tucked away, but once you get a whiff of that grilled goodness, your nose will guide you. I saw some signs about “Pitt Dog” and “Cheddar and Chive Brat” near section 135 too, but I kept my eyes on the prize, the Renegade Dog.
I joined the line—it wasn’t too bad, but you could tell this was a popular item. I overheard some folks talking about how it’s named after David Bednar, the Pirates closer, who goes by the nickname “Renegade.” Pretty cool, right? A hot dog with a story.
When it was my turn, I stepped up and ordered one. The price tag? $14.99. Yeah, it’s a bit steep for a hot dog, but this isn’t just any hot dog. We’re talking a foot-long, and it’s loaded. I also saw they have these fried mozzarella sticks for $12.59 at some other place, but I didn’t try those this time. I saw there were mini pierogies, and I’m all about that. Plus some pickle slices, which is a nice touch. They’re gonna be selling these at least until the All-Star Break, so I knew I had some time, but I couldn’t wait.
Finally, I got my hands on it. Man, this thing was hefty. I found a spot to sit down and really dig in. First bite? Heaven. They had it piled high with pot roast. But the real kicker? It’s got mini-pierogies on it. They finished it off with some kind of onions and some pickle slices, which added a nice little crunch. They had some other stuff around, but I was focused on this hot dog, and it was totally worth it.
I managed to finish the whole thing, but it was a challenge. And I enjoyed every single bite. If you’re ever at PNC Park, do yourself a favor and grab a Renegade Dog. Just make sure you’re hungry!
